So, I actually wrote something today. I know, it's been a year and a half. Do not faint!
ladycat777 gave me the following SGA prompt: John being kind of sappy and love and hating himself for it and wanting to be nice to Rodney. What came out is a bit longer than a drabble, with no real plot or smut, but I gives it to you anyway! She said it was worthy of its own post (originally it was in comments); I am not so sure lol =)
He switched his attention to Elizabeth for a moment when she began talking, but it didn't last long. Not like John didn't care about Rodney before they started living together and doing...other things, but it was different now. He noticed more, like at this very moment in this godforsaken meeting.
John looked at Rodney again, watching his mouth move but not really hearing anything. Instead, he was focused on those dark circles, pale skin and hands that shook ever so slightly as they waved around in the air. Rodney was exhausted. People kept asking more and more of him, and John knew if he didn't step in somehow, Rodney would just keep on going. He was like that, even if he'd deny it with the usual bluster, or try and turn it into some kind of one-upmanship. The man was a total softy under all that ego. Well okay, maybe not a softy, but he certainly wasn't the selfish jerk a lot of people thought he was in the beginning. If anything, he was embarrassingly generous, especially in bed. Not that anyone else needed to know that part.
Suddenly, John tuned in to what Rodney was saying.
"I'll have that to you in a few hours, I just need some time to re-calculate..."
"No." Everyone turned towards John.
"Rodney needs some rest, we all do. The problem isn't so urgent that we can't take a few hours to sleep. My guys need to rotate shift anyway, and this can wait." He tilted his head expectantly at Elizabeth, who nodded.
"We have been pushing hard. As always, I appreciate your efforts. Let's reconvene tomorrow morning, usual time." She shuffled some papers around, her not so subtle sign of dismissal, and John was out of his seat like a shot, tugging Rodney away from one of the biologists, who was asking way too many questions considering they'd just gotten the night off.
In the hallway, Rodney immediately turned in the direction of the lab instead of their quarters, and for a moment they had a bit of a struggle over his left arm until Rodney huffed and gave in. Sort of.
"I'm fine, you know. I really should get those calculations done so they can run overnight, and it's not like anyone else can do them," he announced loudly, but starting walking with John anyway. And John felt his heart swell. Rodney might always have to have the last word, but it was action that counted. After they slept, there would hopefully be naked action too, but first and foremost, John wanted to see Rodney get some rest. He was turning into a total sap, that much was clear, but he couldn't help it.
"What are you grinning at?" Rodney asked suspiciously.
"Nothing at all," John said, smile still on his face as they walked into their room and Atlantis locked the door behind them. "Nothing at all."
