I think comments are emailed randomly... I once didn't get an email comment to a post I'd made until a day later, and by then, I'd responded twice.
I'm enjoying this story very much; it's one of the ones I have trouble saving for later when I see it come up, although lately, I've had trouble just getting to LJ. RL is so demanding, sometimes. ;-)
